About the Emergency First Aid Course

The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is designed for anyone who wants to develop essential first aid skills for the workplace or public spaces. This course equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond confidently to common medical emergencies, such as minor injuries, choking, burns, or heart-related incidents.

Our ICCS course is ideal for security personnel, office staff, event organisers, and anyone responsible for health and safety at work. Completing this course not only enhances your professional profile but is often a legal requirement for workplaces under UK health and safety regulations.

Course Eligibility

To enrol in the Emergency First Aid at Work course, learners should:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Have basic English skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

  • Be physically capable of performing practical exercises

This course is also a mandatory requirement for learners taking SIA security training courses such as Door Supervisor Top-Up Refresher or CCTV Operator Course if a valid first aid qualification is not already held.


Course Content

The EFAW course covers both theory and practical skills, including:

  1. Introduction to First Aid

    • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider

    • Legal and safety considerations

  2. Assessing an Emergency Situation

    • How to check for danger

    • Primary assessment of casualties

  3. Managing Common Injuries and Emergencies

    • CPR and defibrillator use (AED)

    • Choking, bleeding, burns, and shock

    • Minor injuries and fractures

  4. Practical Scenarios

    • Hands-on practice for real-life emergencies

    • Applying first aid skills in workplace or public settings


Assessment & Certification

Learners are assessed through:

  • Practical demonstrations

  • Completion of hands-on activities

  • Multiple-choice knowledge checks

Successful candidates will receive a nationally recognised Emergency First Aid at Work certificate within 7–10 working days, valid for 3 years. ICCS offers free retakes if required.
